Rainy Day Tips for Disney Parks

Many of us hardcore Disney Park enthusiasts will rant and rave about how awesome the parks are in the rain. I personally was one of the rainy day lovers until late last year when we did an all day trip in the park for my mom’s B-day. From morning to evening we endured torrential down pour status. Sure many park goers left the park and the wait times were minimal to walk on but the comfort level was not so favorable for me.Your rain gear options consist of umbrellas which inadvertently poke other park goers in the eyes; Ponchos which are somewhat constricting as far as movement and access to your back pack or purse items; rain coats and rain boots. The hindrance of movement caused by all your rain gear can prove to become a stress inducing situation especially while navigating through the parks. Electronic items such as cameras and iPhones are in danger unless waterproofed and don’t get me started on the wet booty factor. So are we just bragging to brag or do we really mean it when we tell people that rainy days in the park are the best? For locals I assume like myself you’re gonna skip bad weather days in the park, in my opinion it’s too much work and discomfort for something I can enjoy any other day. Of course I realize that a drenched day in the park is unavoidable for our TPSers vacationing from afar, so here is a list of Rainy day items you need to have as well as Park suggestions:

  • Rain Coat or Trench that covers past your butt. The guy on the ride seat before you has been in the rain too and wet seat is unavoidable.
  • Bring Extra Socks. Even if wearing rain boots sometimes the moisture builds and dry socks later in the evening will be a godsend.
  • A couple of dry towels for obvious reasons.
  • Plastic trash bags or zip lock bags for storing your wet clothes or even electronic items to keep them safe and dry.
  • Get a locker in the Park. Whether you stuff a set of dry clothes or souvenirs in it. The gear your adorning is enough alone to lug around, yours not going to want to add carrying crap around all day.
  • Count on outside rides and attractions to either be closed or a real pain to even go on.
  • Take the opportunity to get in a few shows you haven’t seen yet.
  • Shoes or boots with supreme rubber soles for grippage to detour high probability of taking a slippery spill.

Light drizzle days and on and off sprinkles can make a great day in the park. Don’t get me wrong, rainy days are cool but for me entirely over rated. It’s a rough job to stay dry and comfortable all day in the rain on rides and even just walking the parks. My best honest solution to making these rainy days fun and tolerable, a nice a couple hours sit down at the Cove. It’s amazing what a couple of cocktails will do to inspire that inner child to come out and sing, dance and play in the rain!
