Goliath

Six Flags Magic Mountain is home to the top thrill rides in the country. My personal favorite Mega Coaster in this park is Goliath. Goliath was built by, Giovanola and B&M in the year 2000 and holds the record for the highest drop at 255ft at top speeds of 85mph making it the best adrenaline-pumping ride in the park. Located in the front of the park, adjacent to and towering over the mighty Colossus, Goliath provides one of the most beautiful views of the park at its highest peak before dropping at an unbelievable height.

Lets begin our ride, shall we?

While boarding you can feel and sometimes hear the excitement of riders as they secure their safety harnesses. Once secured the ride begins by leaving the station where you commence your assent up the lift hill. As you climb and climb and climb, your heart begins to pound with the rhythm of a fast paced drum banging in your ears with either fear or joy. Of coarse for a seasoned thrill seeker like myself, my heart thumps in anticipation and joy for what’s about to come. Finally you arrive at the peak of the hill and the train slows down and that drumming of your heart stops suddenly as you realize you are practically at the top of the world and what goes up must go down. Before you can even catch your breath, your accent begins and the ride train starts to go over. I have to say the feeling of going down this 255 foot drop is the smoothest, fastest and most breathe taking events you may ever experience. At the bottom of the drop you enter a tunnel where you are misted by water adding another sensory overload. I’m always amused when you enter the tunnel and people put their hands back down because they think their arms will not clear the tunnel. Term for this type of illusion purposely constructed and used on rides is, head choppers. So when you exit you go right up and hit the nice tight right turn and drop again, hitting this sweet bunny hill where you get some nice airtime. I so love that bunny hill. After you have been teased with some thrills you come to the break run. Oh baby the show is really about to start, as you leave the break run you come down to a another turn and you get ready for the most incredible 4G double helix from hell. This will test your body to the limit. A friend told me to put my hands out in front of me, with my palms up. Oh yeah it feels like your body is going to go through the seats. This helix is rated the best in the world. When you leave that part of the ride you take a couple more turns and come into your final break run and stop. When it’s all over you know this ride has done its job if you pull up to the station gasping for air. Over all this, Goliath gets a 10 in my books for the best mega coaster in the west. Thank you Six Flags for giving us this awesome ride. When you visit Six Flags Magic Mountain, this ride is a must!
